What is rasilagnam.com?

It's a free Vedic astrology website. From your birth details we generate raasi (moon sign) and lagnam (ascendant) predictions, birth-chart insights, kundli matching, muhurta timing, and a chat assistant called RasiTalks that answers your astrology questions in plain language.

What do "raasi" and "lagnam" mean?

Raasi is your moon sign — the zodiac sign the Moon occupied at your birth, which Vedic astrology treats as central to personality and prediction. Lagnam (the ascendant) is the sign rising on the eastern horizon at your moment of birth. Together they form the backbone of a Vedic birth chart, which is why the site is named after them.

Is it free?

Yes. rasilagnam.com is free to use and supported by advertising (Google AdSense). You can get predictions and use RasiTalks without paying.

Do I need to create an account?

No. You can get a reading straight away by entering your birth details — no signup required.

What birth details do you need, and why?

For the most accurate reading we ask for your date of birth, time of birth, and place of birth. Vedic astrology depends on the exact positions of the planets at your birth, and those shift quickly — the time and place are what let us calculate your lagnam and an accurate chart. If you only know your raasi, you can still get moon-sign predictions without the full chart.

What is kundli matching?

Kundli matching (also called horoscope or compatibility matching) compares two birth charts to assess how well they align — traditionally used by couples and families before marriage. We analyse both charts and summarise the areas of harmony and friction.

What is RasiTalks?

RasiTalks is our AI astrology assistant. Instead of filling in forms, you can just chat — ask about your raasi, a daily prediction, a compatibility question, or what a placement means — and get a grounded, readable answer. It draws on your birth details when you provide them.

How accurate are the predictions?

We follow established Vedic astrology methods and tie every reading to your specific chart rather than a generic sun-sign blurb. That said, astrology is a tradition for reflection and guidance, not a guarantee of outcomes. Treat readings as insight to think with, not certainty — and never as a substitute for professional medical, legal, or financial advice.

Is my data safe?

We use industry-standard security measures and we do not sell your personal information. You can request deletion of your data at any time. The specifics — what we collect, how long we keep it, and your rights — are in our Privacy Policy.

What languages do you support?

The site is primarily in English, with familiar Tamil and Sanskrit astrological terms (raasi, lagnam, kundli, muhurta) used where they're the natural words for a concept.

What is Sade Sati?

Sade Sati is the roughly seven-and-a-half-year period when Saturn (Shani) transits the sign before your moon sign, your moon sign itself, and the sign after it. It's traditionally read as a season of discipline and maturing rather than plain misfortune. You can see the current dates and phases for your sign in our Sade Sati by moon sign guide.

What is a dasha?

A dasha is a planetary period. The Vimshottari dasha system divides life into a 120-year cycle of nine planetary periods, keyed to the Moon's position at birth, and it's the main timing tool in Vedic astrology. Our Vimshottari dasha guides explain what each planet's period tends to emphasise.

Is my moon sign the same as my sun (star) sign?

Usually not. Your popular "star sign" is your sun sign, whereas Vedic astrology works from your raasi (moon sign) — often a different sign entirely. It also uses the sidereal zodiac rather than the tropical one, so even the sun sign can differ from the Western one. Browse all twelve in our moon-sign profiles, or read rasi vs lagna explained.

Where can I learn the basics?

Our free Learn Vedic Astrology section covers the core ideas in plain language — nakshatras, the navamsa chart, gochara (transits), planetary karakas, and more. It's a good starting point before diving into your own chart.
